The Super-Good, Good-For-You “Green” Smoothie
5 Jun 2015
Every other week, Nikita heads to the kitchen to test out recipes we think the mang’Oh community will love. As a twist on the usual healthy fare, our recipes are usually sweet treats that incorporate an abundance of fruits, veggies, whole grains and nuts. We believe that “real food” treats eaten in moderation can add some fun and variation to a healthy, plant-based diet. We hope you’ll try them out and let us know what you think!
Some people get up and can’t start their day without that cup of coffee or catching up with the latest news. For me, my day doesn’t start until I have had my favorite smoothie. I have been drinking smoothies for years and recently I have decided to give it a bit of an energy booster by adding ingredients that are super good for you but also give you the energy to tackle the rest of the day (perfect for non coffee drinkers that need an extra kick in the mornings).
I call this the “green” smoothie because the ingredient that makes it green is the Green Powder, not the fruits. I try using as many berries as possible as they help to fight off illness and stress but the stars of this smoothie are the added green powder, flax oil, chia seeds and sunflower seeds. This combination will not only keep you energized but it will also provide you with protein to keep you fuller for longer, provide you with selenium which is known to fight off cancer and provide you with the nutrients that you need for the day.
3 Tablespoons Greek Yogurt ( don’t be afraid to use the double thick kind)
1/4 cup Pineapple (cut into small cubes)
1/4 cup Strawberries (sliced in half)
1 teaspoon Green Powder ( or Spirulina )
1 Tablespoon Flaxseed Oil
1 teaspoon Chia Seeds
1 Tablespoon Sunflower Seeds
1 Cup Oat Bran
- Add everything into the blender ( add the easy to blend ingredients first such as the Greek Yogurt)
- Blend, pour and enjoy
