Tara Dhyani Purswani is a registered Yoga Teacher and Yoga Therapist with over 1,000 training hours and 7 years of experience teaching yoga in studios, gyms, hospitals, schools, and living rooms.
Tara was exposed to Indian culture and spirituality at an early age through her father and extended family in India. She took her first Yoga class at age seventeen and it became her church. Back then, she was very uncomfortable in her body — each and every shape was met with resistance, but she kept showing up nonetheless. Over a decade later, she barely recognizes herself and has been sharing these transformational practices with others for over 7 years.
She received the sanskrit name Dhyani when she studied Hatha Yoga at Integral Yoga Institute’s Yogaville Ashram (Satya Greenstone). After that, she studied Vinyasa at OM Yoga (Cyndi Lee), YogaAnatomy at The Breathing Project (Leslie Kaminoff), Yoga Therapeutics at Pure Yoga (Dana Slamp), and Yin Yoga at Integral (Corina Benner). Dhyani encourages her students to embrace their anatomical uniqueness and connect to their highest purpose. Dhyani’s classes are known for intelligent alignment, rhythmic flow, and a bit of funny bone.
Dhyani teaches Yoga full-time in her native city of New York. She did a two-year Yoga and meditation residency at Integral Yoga Ashram in Manhattan (she is now happy to sleep in) and she’s been on multiple 10-day Vipassana Meditation retreats. Dhyani has worked as a Audio Engineer, Travel Agent, and Cheesemonger, but most of all she’s an anatomy geek, volunteering weekly with physical therapists at the Hospital for Special Surgery.
