The Inspirationals: Julia and Anshu, KIDsorted
11 Jun 2015
Every other week, we do a short profile of someone who has been successful creating a career out of doing what they love. We call it The Inspirationals and we hope they will inspire you too!
Why do we love Julia and Anshu?
“KIDsorted is an online marketplace that connects families with providers of kids classes, fun activities and local events. We make it easy for parents to search by zip code, age or interest so you can focus on more important things, like spending that precious time with your kids.”
Julia and Anshu were two busy, working moms who found a gap in the London market. They decided to put their years of experience in the e-commerce world together and start up a business that helps parents to plan activities for their kids, easily and stress-free.
They also give local businesses the opportunity to grow. Many great kids activities are hosted by local moms or dads who have created a business around a special skill or passion, like French nursery rhymes or creative cooking classes. These are not big franchises, but people like you and me who don’t want spend their days doing digital marketing and admin. KIDsorted can support these businesses with all their back office tasks so they can focus on what they love – working with children!
How were Julia and Anshu inspired to start KIDsorted?
Lots of Anshu and Julia’s friends are in their mid-thirties and, like them, are in the midst of the career-parent juggling act. They realized how hard it was to find the right kids activities: either you are lucky to have a friend who is in the know and has a child the same age, or you spend hours on Google going through different websites. There seemed to be a big opportunity to make this process easier.
Quotable: Julia, on what advice she would give to others looking to start a business doing what they love…
“Try to find a partner in crime. Starting your own company is tough, having a sparring partner will not only help to evaluate ideas and share the workload, but will also ensure there is somebody to lift you up if you ever need an energy boost. A great team will make all the difference.”
How would each of these ladies describe themselves in one word?
Focused. Anshu tells us: “As a working mum, time is short, so I try to focus on one thing at a time to get work done efficiently but then also be able to give 100% of my attention when I am with my children.”
Optimistic. Julia tells us: “I believe that a lot in life is about attitude. If you face every day with a smile, the world will smile back at you.”
