Yoga Pose Of The Month: Ardha Matsyendrasana
3 Aug 2016
Ardha Matsyendrasana means “Half Lord of the Fishes Pose”, or is often referred to as Seated Spinal Twist. Matsyendra is the Lord of Fish, and is a reminder of the power of stillness and poise. This posture is often practiced towards the end of class, and is incredibly restorative for the spine after an intense workout. The gentle rotating of the spine can be thought of as a massage for the spine – using the breath to wring out the spine of any kinks or tightness. Gentle twists are a healthy way to neutralize the spine after backbending or other strenuous physical poses.
