Vital Energy: Introduction to the Art of QiGong

with Russell Brant
at the NYC Studio and Livestream

Sunday, May 19th 2024

3:00-5:00 PM ET

Join us for an introduction to the Chinese art of Qi Gong, a rich repertoire of vital energy exercises that promote overall health, stress reduction, balance, coordination, and mental focus. The exercises are suitable for all ages, body types, and levels of physical conditioning.

Ancient in origin, the practice is anchored in Daoist philosophy and based on mindful and organic breathing and movement patterns. The class will experience through practical exercises the principles of Qi Gong mental/physical relaxation, structured movement, and breathing through representative exercises such as those depicted on the Mawangdui scrolls dated to 168 BCE, the 1,000 year old Ba Duan Jin, [Eight Brocades of Silk], the Shi Ba Shi [Eighteen Forms], and the Wu Qin Xi [Five Animal Frolics]. The Animal Frolics is a class favorite, a 2,000 year old series of exercises developed by famed Chinese physician Hua Tuo based on the natural movements of the Bear, Tiger, Deer, Monkey, and Bird. Together, these exercises provide the class with a solid foundation for further developing a practice of Qi Gong.

Don't miss this opportunity to invest in your well-being, nurtured by these ancient practices. Reserve your spot for a blissful afternoon of self-care and discovery.

All levels welcome.

About the teacher: I’m Jaclyn, mom of two, former elementary teacher, messy play enthusiast and child development nerd. Fun fact: sensory play and process art were part of my life 5 YEARS before I even had kids of my own! My husband has built many-a-project to help carry out my wild ideas including 4 different sensory tables and a very large plywood cow (you can ask me about that later). I left my public school days after our first child was born but teaching is still part of my soul. Especially teaching kids to embrace their creativity- because I feel that’s the key to everything! Really everything- boredom, confidence, problem-solving, empathy, learning from mistakes, abstract thinking, etc. My classes are a mix of all the things I’m passionate about providing for my own children (open-ended play, recycled art, mindfulness practices, STEM activities…you get the idea?) and I’m thrilled to offer all my experience and messy-art-making expertise to your family too!
